Bid Adieu To Cold Sore.. Live Life To The Hilt !

Cold Sores (herpes labialis) better known as fever blisters are common viral infection. They are small, fluid filled blisters and usually show up around your lips or skin around the mouth, nose or chin. The blisters are mostly grouped together in patches. Cold sores are mainly caused by the infection with the herpes simplex virus (HSV). What is so worrying is that the people get infected in the childhood or young adulthood and the infection haunts one throughout the life.

What Causes Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by a herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) closely related to the one that causes genital herpes (HSV-2). Both of these viruses can affect your mouth or genitals and can be spread by oral sex.

It’s Transmission

Cold sores are most contagious when oozing blisters are present. But you can transmit the virus to others even if you don't have blisters. When you come in contact with the infected individuals, the chances of being affected seems maximum. This may happen through sharing cosmetics, razors, towels kissing or sharing food. The chance of reinfection is always there and even after sores get healed up, the virus remains active in nerve cells and there is always a chance of recurrence. One - Third of the infected people experience cold sores, which are a recurrence of earlier infection
